Once in a while interesting watches turns up on the workbench for being serviced. I really looked forward to work with the modern Ingenieur with the "new" inhouse movement, cal 80110. Surprisingly it was an disguised and modified Valjoux 7750, without the chronograph mechanism and with a new date module.

However, this is quite nicely done, the Pellaton auto mechanism fitted to one of the most well designed movements in modern times seems to be a smart, perhaps too smart, and efficient way to go when making an "inhouse" caliber. But really, is this not cheating in the long run, is this what the IWC brand stands for when relaunching their iconic Ingenieur? After visiting the IWC official web site i see that they not are willing to show their movements.

The upside is the availability of parts when needed, most of the train wheel (exept the sweep second wheel) seems to be the same as the 7750, the main spring, pallet fork, setting mechanism also, note that the winding stem has an 0.9 thraed (omega 1152 stem).
